Not their Best - By: Mr. Ross Maynard, 12 Aug 2008
Many U2 fans & reviewers here seem to think that Achtung Baby is their best album. I disagree. Actually I think it is one of their dullest. Apart from the fabulous "One", "Ultraviolet" & "Love is Blindness", the other songs are fairly bland. You could pretty much swap music or lyrics between any of them & not notice the difference. "Zooropa" has more energy & rangein this genre, & all their early albums are miles better. I'd even say "Pop" has a better mix of material. I don't know why but, apart from the three songs mentioned, this album fails to move me - unlike most of U2'sother albums.
U2'S ROCKIEST ALBUM... - By: Adam Jackson, 06 Jun 2008
I'm not a big fan of this band,in fact this is the only CD that I own of theirs - This, as a fan of much harder/darker music is the only one that appeals & I think it is excellent!
Tracks such as The Fly have some great riffs & there is a darker element to be foundin such tracks as Love Is Blindness.
Equally, One is one of the most beautiful tracks ever written (aahhhh!).
This is simply a great Alternative Rock album that will appeal to a heavier, less commercial crowd -in much the same way as Depeche Mode's Violator & Songs Of Faith And Devotion.
I'm a fan of Metallica (the odd dodgy album aside)and I'm sure
that early 90's U2 & Depeche Mode influenced Hetfield & Co. around the Load/Reload releases, especiallyin image & style if not musically.
Incredible - By: Rob Rock, 08 Mar 2008
Simple Astonishing. Equally astonishing is every review here has missed the true pinnacle/creshendo that this masterpiece peaks on - Ulatrviolet. Quite simply, an amazing song.
Brilliant - By: D. A. Mcculloguh, 15 Nov 2007
However I found this to be U2's least accessable of the 3 masterpeices they've done. Maybe because its just an endless set of thoughts, feelings & phrases based around divorce which is pretty grim & hard to connect with if its never happened to you.
Still a cracker - By: Nolan Harvey, 10 Mar 2007
Once & for all. This is not the best U2 album. That accolade still belongs unquestionably to 'The Joshua Tree'. However this is still a superb album & one which does not seem to date. U2 had to change direction & did it to massive effect, probably enabling them to have sustained their level of success up to the present. 'The Fly' still sounds searing, 'One' has gone down as one of their favourites (particularly amongst women for some reason) & 'Zoo station' is a brilliant opening. There are a couple of underappreciated gemsin 'Ultraviolet' & 'Acrobat'. On the down side, 'Who's gonna ride your wild horses', I personally find a little corny & agree with the last reviewerin that it is overproduced & 'So Cruel' is overlong. If you love music, then this should undoubtedly bein your collection.
