a MAJOR disappointment - By: A. Moncrieff, 04 Apr 2008
when my friend lewis lent me a copy of Cannibal corpses's third & I believe final album with Chris Barnes, i was very excited. however this excitement lasted exactly as long as it took for me to push play on a cd player. well a bit longer cuz i forgot to put the cdin lolz, but then when it started i was very disappointed! What happened to the great band who wrote "Meathook Sodomy" & "Butchered at Birth"? The true heirs to Slayer's death metal throne made of spiky bones?
Instead of obscene & graphic lyrics set against the backdrop of what sounds like a guitar being knocked on the floor over & over again while the honey monster molests the cookie monster while dueting I was confronted with inspirational songs about the gospel of christ. Did Chris Barnes or someone become a born again Christian?
Look at these song titles:
"Bullets"
"Freedom Fighter"
"Who's Got My Back?"
"Signs"
"One Last Breath"
"My Sacrifice"
"Stand Here With Me"
"Weathered"
"Hide"
"Don't Stop Dancing"
And the last track is the worst of all; "Lullaby"! This is an insult to al l Cannibal Corpse fans. DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE - TOMB OF THE MUTILATED, despite a kewl title, is not a kool album! It's there worst byyfar!
What happened to Chris Barne's voice?? He used to sound like he was dying after having his throat slashed, but now he's a dead ringer of Scott Stapp
from CREED of all things. The whole bloody album sounds like bloody CREED or something!
I verily recommend you do not buy this disgusting album.
Amongst the best death metal albums ever - By: Samuel Hunt, 10 Feb 2007
A 5-star rating is nowhere near an over-reaction to an amazing piece of musical brutality.
Tomb... couldn't have opened with a better song; Hammer Smashed Face. Hammer is probably the closest Cannibal Corpse got to a hit; it was featured on Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, they released it on single, & is arguably their most well-known song. Without conforming to the herd, Hammer is easily one of the best songs on the album, & personally I would go as far as to say it is a death metal classic.
For obvious reasons I can't disclose the song titles, despite the artwork being shown. But to pick a favourite song, it would either have to be track 6, The Cryptic Stench, or track 7, Post Mortal E**********, respectively. Both contain an immense essence of brutality & superb musicianship, typical of Cannibal Corpse.
Obviously, if you pick a Cannibal Corpse album, it's going to be heavy. But Tomb withholds an overwhelming essence of immensity & brutality, & one that,in my opinion, they haven't quite equalled again. Given that it is the third CC album, they have had time to mature musically since Eaten Back to Life (which is a great album nonetheless, but more raw than Tomb) & advancein songwriting & musician skills.
But a big credit has to be owed to legendary Scott Burns' production skills of the equally legendary Morrisound Studios,in the death metal landmark Tampa, FL. The result makes it feel as if every single square millimetre of the speaker has burst into a fit, blasting out this sheerly brutal, heavy-as-F legendary piece of death metal.
This album is easily one of the best death metal albums recorded. This album should be a staple of your musical repertoire, period.
Hugely influential Death Metal near-masterpiece - By: , 09 Jun 2005
Obviously, to most people, the most well-known thing about this album are the song titles, particularly the infamous track 7 (I'm sure the good people at Amazon would be compelled to censor it if I typed itin even though it's printed at the top of this page). However, that regrettably overshadows the fact that this is actually one hell of a good Death Metal album. The stand out tracks are, for me at least, the unmentionable number 7, & the opener, Hammer Smashed Face. Just check out that bass solo! As for the rest, it's textbook Cannibal Corpse; nice meaty riffs, the occasional solo, plenty of blastbeats and, of course, Chris Barnes' lower-than-thou vocal delivery. Yes, I know, George Fisher is a far better Death Metal vocalist, but Chris did have a nice style of his own, which he is regrettably no longer usingin the appalling Six Feet Under! Besides, he does (or at least did) write some of the best Death Metal lyrics going! Basically, if you're keen on your Death Metal, you want to check this out if you haven't already, it's a piece of history, & worth it just to have a look at the lyric sheet. Also, the cover art's pretty cool as well, but I probably shouldn't mention it!!!

out of all the cannibal corpse albums i have this is the best by a long shot.chris barnes was the best cannibal corpse singer & i wish he never left cannibal corpse.george fisher is a good singer but he could never beat chris barnes.i wouldnt recommend this for sane people as the lyrics are probaly the most disturbing lyrics that you will ever hear.so if your new to death metal buy this cd as you wont regret it & it is one of the best death metal cds that you can buy.
Fantastically gore filled masterpiece! - By: , 05 Feb 2003
The masters of death metal's third album "Tomb of the mutilated" is by far their best, You can see why so many bands wish they were Cannibal Corpse!. Cannibal Corpse are mainly famous for, sick, but imaginative album covers, & the song "Hammer smashed face" being featuredin "Ace Ventura : Pet detective", & also being mentionedin Bob Dole's election speech for being "Obscene". Cannibal Corpse are superb musicians, you can feel Alex Webster's crunching bass lines shivering down your spine, plus Jack Owen's guitar spinning round your head like a tornado. I really dig Chris Barnes's (Now sadly left) vocals, he has a very commanding voice, it shows on this his second last album with Cannibal Corpse. My favourite songs are "Hammer smashed face" "I cum blood" & "Post mortal ejaculation" all songs are superbly written, with some sick lyrics to go along! Fantastic!
