This is a meaty chunk of Max Roach - 2 tracks, 4 musicians & 40 minutes of pure joy. The music - each track hits the 20 minute mark - is a swirling dervish where hard-bop crashed headlong into free-form jazz. Although the blues structure to the pieces remains fairly constant, the driving force of Roach's drumming keeps the music on the boil. Eddie Kahn on bass, Mal Waldron on piano & Clifford Jordan on tenor sax make up the rest of the band. Always worth returning to.
