best album from ub40 - By: john moodie, 27 Apr 2003
the album of what ub40 were & should still be about. with tracks like buzz feeling, mi spliff & king step they really brought out the best from their jamaican members via brum. if you are a reggae fan & worried ub40 may be a bit poppy for your taste then rest assured when you hear this you'll wish you were backin the 80's skankin' away to the sound of reggae as it was & should be. peace to he who sees the light...
It's My favourite Reggae Album - By: , 03 Apr 2003
I have to disagree with the "Fairly good, old, album" review above. I like all sorts of music & just about every sort of Reggae, & I have to rate it as my favourite reggae LP.
True, many UB40 fans won't appreciate it, & the format is unusual. It's a pile of reworked versions of tracks from "Geoffrey Morgan" & "Labour of Love" donein a Ragga/Dub/Toast/DJ style. If this isn't your thing you would definitely find it repetitive (for instance 4 versions of "If it happens again"). Each to his own, I guess, but for me it just hits the spot.
My personal favourites are "Fight Fe Comein MK.2" (The pillow) & V's Version (version girl). The only real weak point is the horrendous "I've got you babe" with Chrisie Hynde. If this is your favourite UB40 track, don't buy this album; if your normal reggae listening is anything from I-Roy to Shabba, I'd suggest you give it a go.
Fairly good, old, album - By: humminkool@hotmail.com, 19 May 2002
The album is from the early days of UB40. The songs on here have a definate regga theme behind them, which some of the newer songs seem to be missing. I only bought the album for "Buzz Feeling", which is still my favourite song on the album.
Over all its a good album which if you like regga then would suit you. If your a fan of the later stuff & just want it to add to your collection then it would suit you. Its more of a background music type than a sing along type.
For nice mix of UB40 you`d be better off getting the Labour of Love volumes.
