Muddy Waters would have been proud of this album - By: Docendo Discimus, 29 Feb 2004
One of Chicago blues queen Koko Taylor's very best albums, "I Got What It Takes" is a superb slice of muscular, gritty electric blues.
Koko Taylor is backed by a number of tremendous musicians, Magic Joe Young, Sammy Lawhorn, & saxist Abe Locke among them, & Bruce Iglauer's production is crisp without being slick. Taylor's voice is both clear, expressive & powerful, & her renditions of "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean", "Trying To Make A Living", "Big Boss Man", "Happy Home", & "I Got What It Takes" are among the best, toughest, most genuine Chicago blues you'll ever hear.
